One hurt in Northport crash after vehicle goes 'flying off the road'
Northport — Police, fire and ambulance personnel responded to the report of a one-car accident just after 11 a.m. Friday, March 8, in which one of the vehicle occupants was treated for a complaint of pain in her shoulder.
Waldo County Chief Deputy Jeff Trafton said the crash report came in to dispatch at 11:04 a.m., and the witness who called it in stated she saw the vehicle "flying off the road."
Christine VonMehren, of Belfast, was traveling on Route 1 when she dropped her cigarette, Trafton said reading from a report. VonMehren reached down to pick up the cigarette when she started to cross the center line before losing control of the vehicle.
At the scene, an SUV was sitting on its wheels in a clump of trees along the roadside.
Trafton said VonMehren did not suffer any injuries in the accident. Passenger Jennifer Marks, also of Belfast, complained of right shoulder pain, but refused to be taken to the hospital.
The vehicle sustained about $3,000 worth of damage, according to the accident report.
Along with deputies with the Waldo County Sheriff's Office, Northport firefighters and Belfast ambulance attendants responded to the scene.
