Empty Bowls at Unity College Centre
Unity — Unity College will host its 18th annual Empty Bowls community meal Tuesday, Dec. 4 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Unity College Centre for the Performing Arts, 42 Depot St. The suggested donation is $10, which includes a handmade pottery bowl.
The fundraiser will benefit the Volunteer Regional Food Pantry and Veggies for All; both programs serve families across Western Waldo County. Generous support will be provided by the Unity Barn Raisers Community Meal Program, the Veggies for All program, Unitel and local growers and potters.
For more information, contact Jennifer Olin, Community-Based Learning Coordinator for the college, at 948-9273 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
“This event is emblematic of the growing capacity of both organizations to find new and innovative ways to serve the food security needs in this region,” said Olin. “The success of the VRFP and Veggies for All Program serves as a model for strong community-based strategies to address food security needs.”
Veggies for All is a project of the Unity Barn Raisers whose mission is to grow and distribute fresh local produce to food insecure households. Vegetables are distributed through a partnership with the VRFP and Unity College.
In addition to providing local monthly food stores, the VRFP provides educational programming for its client base including food preparation and preservation workshops, said Olin. It also provides nutritional information about fresh produce and gardening support and instructions.
