Enjoy the Midcoast Open Campus Weekend This  Friday, Saturday, and Sunday

Friday, June 22, the Apprenticeshop kicks off the Open Campus Weekend with a boat launching and accompanying festivities. Located on the Rockland waterfront at 683 Main St., the Apprenticeshop teaches traditional boat building skills, sailing and maritime arts. Shop tours will be available throughout.

Saturday, June 23, the Penobscot School invites you to visit during a youth workshop on Japanese craft, a book sale and demonstrations of Japanese calligraphy and Ikebana — “the way with flowers.” Located at 28 Gay St. in Rockland, the school offers courses in French, Japanese, Spanish, Russian and many other languages, as well as sign language and English immersion programs.

Sunday, June 24, the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship offers tours of its workshops and an exhibition of faculty work in its Messler Gallery. The Rockport school, which is located at the corner of Route 90 and Mill Street, offers courses for all skill levels in furniture making, design and related woodworking arts such as carving and marquetry.

Also on Sunday, Maine Media Workshops and College hosts tours of its extensive facilities, while offering free family portraits and an outdoor art exhibition. The school, located at 70 Camden St. in Rockport, delivers a wide range of programs in traditional and digital photography, video and other media arts.

Open campus hours are 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at each location.
