Waldo — A driver and his passenger escaped injury Sunday evening, Aug. 28 when they struck a large tree branch that fell into the road due to the high winds that came with Tropical Storm Irene.

The accident report on file at the Waldo County Sheriff's Office noted that the accident occurred just after 6 p.m., as 25-year-old Derek L. Larrabee of Knox was headed east on Waterville Road in Waldo in a 1999 Chevrolet pickup.

Larrabee encountered a large tree branch that had fallen in the road due to the high winds from the storm and according to the accident report, Larrabee was unable to avoid striking the object. The truck struck the end of the tree branch, which sent the vehicle into a 180-degree spin before coming to rest in the road.

Neither Larrabee nor his passenger, 24-year-old Jennifer Larrabee, was hurt in the accident.

Damage to the pickup was estimated at $3,000.
