Josh Outerbridge and his son Lincoln got a rare treat when a bobcat wandered into their yard in Northport on Friday, March 28. Outerbridge said the bobcat was interested in their bird feeder where several squirrels were congregating.

"This is the first long sighting I've had," Outerbridge said. "I've seen maybe three over the last 10 years, but they were just quick glances."

Josh said this bobcat stuck around for some time, watching the squirrels and even approaching the house at one point.

For those interested in the return of big cats to New England, Unity College is presenting a lecture by Susan C. Morse of Jericho, Vt., a nationally known tracker and expert on wildlife habitat. She will present “Coming Soon: The Cougar Returns to the East,” at 7 p.m., April 8, at the Unity College Center for the Performing Arts (UCCPA), 42 Depot St. in Unity.
