Finding An Environmentally-Friendly Roof
At Horch Roofing, we encourage you to take the necessary steps to make your house more environmentally-friendly.
Are you thinking about replacing your roof? Are you looking at your options for making your house a little bit “greener?” At Horch Roofing, we think reducing our carbon footprint is essential to our business.
Here are some ways to reduce your carbon footprint with your new roof:
- Consider a steel roof. Steel roofing material is made using 60%-65% recyclable material. It also weighs very little, so the roof can be installed right on top of your old roof, eliminating the need to dispose the old materials in a landfill. A steel roof is also very low maintenance, and can last up to 50 or 60 years. When it does come time to replace the roof, the steel material is easy to recycle. According to the American Iron and Steel Institute, steel is considered the best material for green buildings because it helps reduce and eliminate the use of chemical substances. However, a steel roof is not for everyone. You should always consider manufacturer recommendations and warranties when you make decisions about your roof. Horch Roofing can help you review your plans and goals, and will assist you in choosing the right material for your roofing project.
- Recycle your asphalt shingles. Shingles on asphalt roofs are not known to be environmentally-friendly, but it is possible to recycle these shingles, using them to make pavements for roads and driveways. At Horch Roofing, we are committed to recycling asphalt shingles that we pull from roofs, and we encourage everyone to do the same!
- Use an EPDM Rubber Membrane on your roof. This rubber material can not only protect your asphalt shingles from elements like hail and snow, but is also helps prevent rainwater from becoming infused with chemical substances from the asphalt. This is a great option for individuals who are interested in rainwater harvesting, and your roof will last longer with this membrane protecting it!
- Hire Horch Roofing to help with your roofing needs! One thing that Horch Roofing values is recycling our products. Beginning April 1, 2010 Horch Roofing began recycling 100% of roofing waste, and we are committed to recycling all of our re-roofing material as part of our standard operating procedure. More than two million pounds of material has been recycled by Horch Roofing to date. Be apart of our cause and let us help you with your roofing needs.
