Fire chief: house fire in Searsport a 'total loss'
Searsport — Shortly before a four-car accident on Route 1 in Searsport would back up traffic and make passage of emergency crews difficult, a call went out to area fire departments to respond to a structure fire in Searsport.
The home at 12 Sanborn Valley Rd., about 1/4 mile down the private dirt road off Harris Road, was completely engulfed in flames at the time of the call, at about 12:20 p.m. Monday Sept. 1.
Searsport Fire Chief Andy Webster said Searsport, Stockton Springs, Prospect and North Frankfort fire departments responded to the scene and put out the flames, but the structure was a total loss. Crews were able to pump water from Beaver Bog on the property.
"For being a holiday weekend, and with the heat and stuff, it went very well," Webster said.
Webster said the source of the fire was unknown at the time but that the fire marshal would be investigating. No one was home at the time of the fire.
