First-place efforts by Nealey, Richards, Njaa lead BAHS

Lion boys finish an impressive third among 11 scoring teams

Waterville — Once again, Belfast Area High School indoor track athletes excelled against larger schools with more opponents in a Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference regular-season meet Saturday, Jan. 12 at Colby College.

The Lion boys finished third among 11 scoring teams and the Lion girls sixth among 10 squads.

BAHS student-athletes recorded several top finishes, including first-place performances from Drew Nealey (pole vault), Grant Richards (55-meter hurdles) and Allie Njaa (high jump).

The girls team scores were: Messalonskee of Oakland 98, Brunswick 80.5, Winslow 66.5, Lawrence of Fairfield 64, Edward Little of Auburn 36, Belfast 34, Skowhegan 25, Morse of Bath 12, Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield 13 and Gardiner 2.

The boys team scores were: Edward Little 77, Brunswick 71, Belfast 70, Messalonskee 55, Lawrence 39, Skowhegan 29, Winslow 24, Cony of Augusta 21, Mount Blue of Farmington 18, Gardiner 17 and Maine Central Institute 12.

The individual Lion girls results were:

55 meters — 4, Cassidy Hill, 8.10.

200 meters — 18, Njaa, 31.08; 26, Kristine Mehuren, 32.20; and 28, Lindsey Ward, 32.55.

400 meters — 5, Hill, 1:05.85.

800 meters — 3, Kelsey Grass, 2:33.66; and 11, Hannah Ames, 3:30.09.

Two miles — 8, Maddie Wich, 14:15.66.

4x200-meter relay — 4, Belfast (Njaa, Grass, Mehuren, Hill), 2:00.68.

High jump — 1, Njaa, 4-8; and 12, Mehuren, 4-0.

Pole vault — 2, Grass, 7-6.

Shot put — 10, Hanna Bailey, 26-1.75; and 17, Nancy Joslen, 21-11.75.
