Flying Shoes fly into 2013
Belfast — The Belfast Flying Shoes Contra Dance series will hold the first dance of 2013 Friday, Jan. 4. The Free Raisins will play the event at the American Legion Hall Post No. 43, 143 Church St. Band members are Audrey Knuth, fiddle; Amy Englesberg, piano; and Jeff Kaufman, mandolin and trumpet. Chrissy Fowler of Belfast will call.
The evening will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a community dance led by Fowler and music by the All-Comers Band, led by Tom Fowler, Phyllis Buchanan and Jennifer Armstrong. Fun and simple dances will be taught, and both beginner and experienced dancers are encouraged to brush up on and learn new skills. All musicians are welcome to sit in.
The main contra dance will begin at 8 p.m. and run until around 11 p.m. Admission for the community dance is $2 for adults and $1 for children. For the main dance, the price is $10 for adults (older than 20); $7 for those age 13 to 20 as well as adult All-Comers; and $4 for children. As always, anyone who brings a box fan for the windows gets a dollar discount.
