Franklin D. Larrabee, 80
Knox — Franklin D. Larrabee, 80, died peacefully on Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, at Oak Grove Center in Waterville. He was born Dec. 15, 1932, in Knox, the son of Linwood and Eulalia (Fox) Larrabee.
Frank was a graduate of Morse Memorial High school and was a member of the great 1950 basketball team that beat Winterport in a county championship in the Belfast Armory. He developed his trade of plumbing/heating and pipefitting at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in Hartford, Conn., and worked in this trade all his life, traveling throughout the Northeast working nuclear projects and mill shutdowns. He also owned his own plumbing & heating business and was noted for helping numerous needy families at low or no cost for his services.
Frank enjoyed watching sports, including the Patriots and the Red Sox, but he was famous for his love of horse racing.
Frank was predeceased by his parents and siblings Alice, Laurent, John, Ethel, Edward, Howard and Gracie.
He is survived by his companion and beloved caretaker, Mary Haskell, of Weeks Mills; a sister, Leona Curtis, of Bridgton; sons Dan of Augusta, Ga., Dana of Oceanside, Calif., and Dave of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; and 10 grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held in the spring and announced at a later date.
