Free "Co-Parenting Through Separation and Divorce" Presentation offered Wednesday

By Children's House Montessori School | Oct 15, 2012

Judith Orme, MSW, will present the fourth and final presentation in her free parent education series on Wednesday, October 17, 6:30-7:30 p.m. The topic will be "Co-Parenting Through Separation and Divorce." Held at the Children's House Montessori School, 58 Elm Street, Camden, the presentation is free and open to all community parents.

When a marriage is dissolving, grieving the end of the relationship is difficult enough. The process can be painful, bringing feelings of rejection, anger, bitterness, failure, etc. It is challenging to disengage from these emotions to consider what is best for the children. When conflict escalates, the children suffer more than anyone. Whatever the feelings, each parent has a responsibility to the estranged spouse to co-parent respectfully and effectively, attending to the best interests of the children. Each child struggles to hold a loving, positive relationship with both parents, thus when a parent exposes a child to his or her anger toward the other parent, it is the child who is hurt.

This presentation will provide an overview of the effects of separation/divorce on children, offering tools for effective communication with guidelines for creating a healthy, positive co-parenting relationship. Judith Orme is a parenting specialist, consultant, counselor and family mediator. Advance sign-up for the presentation is required. To sign up, call Judith at 1-603-801-6382.
