Voice of Freedom:
Today is the first full day of Spring! Soon all the buds will be opening, the temperature’s will begin to rise and the people will be happy to see the snow, ice and cold go away. We have spring to look forward to, mud season, black fly season and the coming of summer. I wonder what will be in store for us this summer. Will it be very hot or normal? Time will tell.
After being in the hospital and rehab for the last three months, Harold Greeley is finally back home! All his family and friends couldn’t be happier. Welcome home Harold, and stay well.
Maple Syrup Sunday:
Even though the weather has not been as cooperative as we would like for maple syrup production, here at Beaver Hill Plantation in Freedom, we are anticipating a very active Maple Syrup Weekend, highlighted by Maple Syrup Sunday.
To date we have had a handful of days with temperatures warm enough to get the sap running. However, with upgrades in our tubing system which we are eager to show off this year, and an expansion in the number of buckets, production is actually well ahead of last year at this time.
The forecast for the next few days looks pretty good, so we expect to be making syrup through the remainder of this week and all weekend.
On Maple Syrup Sunday we will welcome Clayton Larrabee from Knox with his Belgian draft horses and covered wagon. Free rides will be available starting at 10:00 on Sunday. Of course we will also have syrup making over our wood fired arch, guided walking tours, maple baked bean samples, syrup covered ice cream and other maple flavored goodies.
The sugar house will be open all day Saturday for sales and a cup of coffee so come on over.
So from everyone here at Beaver Hill Plantation in Freedom, we say Spring is just around the corner and we would like to see you.
