Gawler Family concert postponed a day
Unity — The Gawler Family Band will perform Friday, Dec. 28 at 7:30 p.m. at Unity College Centre for the Performing Arts, 42 Dept St., presented by Skye Theatre. Originally scheduled for the day before, the performance has been moved due to the winter storm.
John and Ellen Gawler and their daughters Molly, Edith and Elsie will bring an assortment of old and new sounds from many folk traditions to the Centre stage. They accompany interweaving family harmonies with fiddles, banjo, wooden banjo, cello and guitar, as well as a few surprises. Whether crooning a poignant ballad or delivering a rollicking fiddle tune, their distinctive arrangements are especially engaging and often go along with anecdotes of historical or humorous content.
Although the Gawlers may be best known for their extensive collection of dance tunes in the Scots-Irish and French Canadian traditions, their repertoire may include a gutsy a cappella work song or an amusing ode to everyday life. The Gawlers have earned a beloved place in the hearts of varied audiences across the Northeast with their infectious spirit and sparkling musicianship.
Tickets are $15, with a limited numbers available free for Unity College students, faculty and staff. For reservations, call 948-7469.
