Glenn Ross Mekelburg, 65, a resident of Belfast passed away on Aug. 15, 2014.
He was born in Boston, Mass., on July 28, 1949, to the late Libby Klayman and A. Richard Mekelburg of Needham, Mass. He graduated from Needham High School, received a bachelors degree in nursing from Boston University and certification as a Nurse Anesthetist from Johns Hopkins University. He married Dianne Dolloff on Aug. 29, 1976. Glenn lived and worked as a CRNA establishing his own private practice in Maryland for more than 35 years.
He was an accomplished jazz, blues and rock musician on keyboards, an avid Red Sox fan, enjoyed collecting books, toys, antiques, cars and wine, and restoring old houses. He especially loved dogs and cats and created a special memorial fund at the Animal Rescue League of Boston.
He is survived by his wife Dianne Mekelburg, of Belfast; and his son Alexander Mekelburg, of Boston, Mass. He is also survived by his bothers Robert and spouse Meg Mekelburg of Columbia, Md.; Andrew and spouse Linda Mekelburg of Frederick, Md.; sister-in-law Jeanne and spouse Frank Lowenthal; brother-in-laws Chris and John Dolloff; nephews David and spouse Shirley Mekelburg, Eric Mekelburg, William Mekelburg, Cory Mekelburg, Daniel Lowenthal, James, Joseph and Jacob Dolloff; and a niece, Elise Mekelburg. He would also like to recognize the many beloved cousins and extended family members.
Glenn was a "best friend" to many, had a natural stand-up comedian's knack for humor, and will be sorely missed. He requested that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to the Glenn Mekelburg Fund at the Animal Rescue League Boston, https:/www.arlboston.org/donate.
A gathering to honor and say goodbye to Glenn will be held 10 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 24, at Grove Cemetery in Belfast.
