Mt. Waldo is a hike with diversity! Starting with an the abandoned granite quarry that built Ft. Knox, we then ascend open ledges landscaped with mosses and lichens with views over the Penobscot River valley, finally reaching the summit for a bag lunch together. Great views of islands and ocean lay out the geography for us, after which we descend the way the glacier descended, down the south slope. Meet at the public parking lot in Belfast behind Traci's Diner at 10 a.m. Or wait for us to pick you up at the Frankfort Boat Launch on Rte. 1A at 10:20 a.m. It is a moderately challenging six-mile hike, well worth the effort. Bring warm extra layers, lunch, and water. Best to wear orange, even on Sunday. Sponsored by Belfast Bay Watershed Coalition.
