Hampden driver hurt in one-car crash faces drunk driving charge
Winterport — Police are still investigating a one-car crash in Winterport that sent a 20-year-old Hampden driver to an area hospital and resulted in several charges including operating under the influence.
Patrick Gunn, 20, of Hampden, was summoned on charges of operating under the influence, driving to endanger, failure to maintain control of the motor vehicle and illegal possession of liquor by a minor (consumption) after he was involved in a one-car accident that occurred on Meadow Road at about 1:22 a.m. Friday, Aug. 23.
Waldo County Chief Deputy Jeff Trafton said police are still working to determine exactly how the crash happened, but that the crash caused "a lot of damage" to the 2001 Subaru Legacy Gunn was driving at the time of the crash.
Trafton said Gunn sustained some injuries and went to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor to be treated, but the accident report did not specify whether he went by ambulance or in a private vehicle.
"He left the scene and called his dad, and then his dad picked him up and brought him back to the scene," said Trafton.
Gunn's injuries are considered non life-threatening, Trafton said.
