Freedom — Harvey Schiller of Freedom passed away suddenly on Sept. 28, 2016, at the age of 75. Harvey was born in Washington, D.C., to Bee and Louis Schiller. He graduated high school in 1959, served in the U.S. Army and attended American University before moving to Maine in 1967.
Harvey had numerous jobs with the telephone company, the railroad and until his retirement owned and operated Belfast Kayak Tours. Harvey was a Registered Maine Guide who wrote poetry and enjoyed being self-sufficient on his farm.
He was predeceased by his parents and is survived by his sons, Andrew Schiller (wife Gillian) of Massachusetts and his granddaughters Wendy and Isabel Schiller, and Brian LaPlante (wife Jackie) of Rhode Island and grandson Jared and granddaughter Emma LaPlante; his sister Debbie Goldberg of Maryland; several cousins and many longtime friends.
A service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 22, from 10 a.m. to noon at Veilleux Funeral Home, 8 Elm St., Waterville, followed by a burial service at his Freedom property.
