Searsmont — The competition was fierce, but customers did pick two winners at Patchwork Plus' 26th anniversary kids' contest in August. Children were asked to create something using straw hats provided by Patchwork Plus. Julia Shannon of Lee won in the 10 and under age group. She used her straw hat as a bird feeder and had a cat to pounce on paper mache three bluebirds that were ready to eat from the feeder.

Olivia Hills of Searsmont took the prize in the 11 and older age group. She showed her patriotic spirit when she made her straw hats into an Olympic-style venue representing several of the Summer Olympics events.

The store also gave away a quilt as a door prize, which was won by Hope Harriman of Liberty.
