High school sophomore to start college in fall
Searsmont — Kelly Walker, 16, of Searsmont, a sophomore at Belfast Area High School, is set to start college this fall.
Walker's outstanding academic and personal achievements gained her admission to Bard College at Simon’s Rock in Great Barrington, Mass. She will join 400 other highly motivated students who are starting their college education immediately after their sophomore or junior year.
“Simon’s Rock receives a number of impressive applications every year, said Steven Coleman, director of admissions. “In a highly selective process, Kelly’s remarkable academic and extracurricular achievements stood out.”
Bard College at Simon’s Rock has been a leader in the early college movement for more than 40 years. It is the lone four-year residential college of the arts and sciences in the United States specifically designed to provide bright and highly motivated students with the opportunity to begin college early.
