Holiday Happenings in Historic Downtown Searsport

Friday, December 6- Searsport Town Tree Lighting at 4:00pm on the crescent.
Friday, December 6- Penobscot Marine Museum and Main Street Gallery will ost an Opening Party for the winter exhibit, Underfoot from 4:00pm-7:00pm. The new exhibit will feature footwear, hooked rugs, In the Cellar and Below Decks and include Maine Authors and Maritime Merriment, a book signing with five Maine authors, and a Gingerbread Christmas by the Sea: a display of holiday gingerbread houses and voting contest.
Saturday, December 7- WORKS will host a holiday open house, serving refreshments and a special show of handmade crafts for the holiday season.
Saturday, December 7- Miracle On Mortland Road will kick off its first annual holiday event from 2:00pm to 7:00pm at Searsport Elementary School at 30 Mortland Road. Events for Saturday include a Christmas vendors market, write a letter to Santa and he will write your child back, raffles, a Christmas tree gala and voting contest, children's holiday crafts and activities, and a bake sale, hosted by the SDHS junior class to raise money for this years' prom.
A suggested donation for events inside Searsport Elementary School is appreciated, but not required: $5 per family of five or more, or $1 per person.
On Sunday, December 8 from noon to 5pm, Miracle on Mortland Road will be open again, starting with the arrival of Santa Clause by sleigh at the Searport High School ball fields. Children can take rides with Santa from 12:15pm-2:00pm. Then, children can have a little visit with Santa in the Searsport Elementary School cafeteria from 2:30pm-5pm. All of the same events from Saturday will continue all day on Sunday as well.
A suggested donation for sleigh rides with Santa is appreciated: $1 per person. Parents/caregivers, don't forget your camera's for photo ops!
On Sunday, the Christmas tree gala votes will be tallied and the winner will be announced at 4:45pm in the cafeteria of the elementary school, and will be presented with The Golden Tree Award.
Christmas tree decorating teams and individuals, Christmas market vendors and craftspeople, volunteers, and loans or donations of holiday decorations for both inside and out are still welcome. Contact us for details at MarchMadnessBenefit@gmail.com for info.
Funds from Miracle On Mortland Road will supply an operating budget for March Madness 2014, in which all of the proceeds are given to a Waldo county beneficiary to pay for medical bills, and to supply seed money for our non-profit, MAD Mission.
Saturday, December 14- Penobscot Marine Museum Shop and Main Street Gallery will host a sock-making workshop from 9:00am-noon.
Saturday, December 21- Penobscot Marine Museum Shop and Main Street Gallery will be hosting a rug-hooking demonstration from 11:00am-1:00pm with Searsport rug hooker, Sarah Nickerson.
