Whether you are looking to calculate a feeding ration, deworming dose or monitoring weight loss, knowing how to properly weigh your horse is very important.

The most accurate way to weigh your horse is to use a scale. However, outside of universities and referral hospitals scales large enough for horses are very difficult to find.

Weight tape is a much more convenient option. It can easily be found at your local feed store or tack and equipment catalogs. However, accuracy varies between different brands. Accuracy is also greatly decreased with miniature horses, ponies and large draft breeds.

So what other options are there? The following link provides a video tutorial and weight calculator teaching you how to obtain heart girth and body length measurements to calculate your horse's weight.
