Hugh A. Pomeroy Jr.
Hugh A. "Pete" Pomeroy Jr. , 60, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on June 4, 2014, in his home surrounded by family.
He was born on July 4, 1953 to Hugh Sr. and Virginia Pomeroy. He attended Searsport High School then joined the Army. Later he attended Texas A&M. Peter was raised with a family of hard workers, mostly digging clams and working in their clam shop. Peter worked most of his life as a self-employed clam digger working hard to earn the title "clamslayer". He was a Jack or Pete of all trades. Pete & Linda's Shellfish was his clam processing business for more than 15 years; then he got into the real estate business with his nephew, Ralph Robbins. He liked being his own boss and looked for many adventures and self-employment opportunities. He did work in Texas on an offshore oil refinery, worked in wastewater treatment, and at Kooney X-Ray.
Peter enjoyed playing softball as a pitcher; loved dancing, boating, vacationing (in warm places), benefit suppers, gardening with his wife and searching for artwork at yard sales and auctions; enjoyed watching movies and shows like "Building Wild," "America's Got Talent," and "Law & Order" reruns; enjoyed any "get-rich-quick" opportunities; and loved wearing his cowboy boots and his gold necklace and earring.
During his last few months of life he cleared the home property by removing wheelbarrows-full and a boat-trailer full of brush. He worked 10-plus hour days mowing grass also, regardless of his unsteadiness. He made sure his children were all a part of this too.
Peter is predeceased by his parents Hugh Pomeroy Sr. and Virginia Pomeroy, and siblings Herbert Robbins and Shirley Grant.
Peter is survived by his wife Linda and five children, Sherry Peek and husband Kevin of Prospect, Jason Hartman of Searsport, Hugh Pomeroy III of Swanville, Jaime Hartman of Webster, Mass., and Justin R. Pomeroy of Searsport; 17 grandchildren, Marky, Cory, Jada, Anika, Jilly, Aliyah, Aleannah, Katrina, Hugh "Little Pete" IV, Abigail, CJ, Nate, Cody, Sierra, Emily, Robynn, and Rena; one great-grandchild, Laney, and two more expected in October; siblings, Myrtle "Snooky" and her husband Robert of Rockland, Ralph Robbins and wife of Augusta, Phyllis Talgo and partner Don of Appleton, Steve Pomeroy and wife Sharon of Searsport, Dennis Pomeroy and wife Sheryl of Searsport; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Many thanks to all his friends and family for the visits and calls at the hospital and at home. He knew you were there and loved you all.
Family and friends will gather for visitation from 5-7 p.m. Monday, June 9, at Young Funeral Home (mitchelltweedie-young.com), 31 West Main Street in Searsport. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday June 10, 2014 at Searsport Full Gospel Church.
