THOMASTON, ME:  On Saturday, June 14, Thomaston Place Auction Galleries will present a special, unreserved auction of over 600 lots of rare coins and currency sourced from many fine private collections and Midcoast Maine hoards.     

Owner and auctioneer Kaja Veilleux said: “This sale includes a broad variety of material, including gold, silver and copper coins, US and foreign money, silver bars, plus many examples of early currency.  There are items ranging from the extremely rare, to pieces that will appeal to novice collectors.”

Featured among the gold coins will be an 1853 U.S. Assay Office $20.00 piece with a PCGS grade of MS-62+; an 1855 Wass Molitor & Co. $10.00 coin, with a PCGS grade of AU; and an 1855 Kellogg & Co., $20.00 coin, graded AU-58+.

 Leading the silver coin group will be a 1796 Draped Bust Sm Eagle Dollar, graded PCGS XF-40; an 1804 Draped Bust Quarter; 1835 Capped Bust Dime; and a 1920-S Standing Liberty Quarter, CH BU.

In the copper category will also be a 1787 Fugio Cent New Haven restrike, NGC 61-BN and a 1787 Connecticut ‘Mutton Head’ Cent, XF.

The group of foreign coins will include a 1947 Mexico Gold 50 Peso piece with 18K gold bezel; a 1947 Mexico Gold 50 Peso, graded BU; and a 1980 Canada Maple Leaf 1 oz. pure gold coin. 

Three silver bars will be sold, including two 100-oz. ‘General Medals’ .999 pieces.

Among the collection of currency will be two lots containing $10 Confederate currency notes and a Series 1922 $10.00 Speelman-White Gold Certificate.

Finally, the sale will offer a large variety of commemorative coins, silver dollars, proof sets, and mint sets.
