Good Morning Friday
As I sit here waiting to go and get my second student, 1st one didn’t go. So watching the news…how terrible, why can’t we have positive news…. The New Jersey boardwalk on fire after they just built it back and then the terrible flood in Colorado along with all the other things overseas etc.
We had thunder showers and had damage in a lot of places but Islesboro was really hit and had no power for while anywhere, how scary. We need a good weekend and sounds like we might get it.
Gee was it chilly. I had to start my furnace for a minute but it’s going to be a good day they say. WE are celebrating my great granddaughter Ella’s birthday. Happy Birthday, Ella, great gram loves you. We had a good summer, didn’t we? It’s the 17th but with school and everyone working it hard. Plus it’s getting dark so early now.
This and That
Looking at my notes…mostly things I’ve heard or seen on TV.
STATES: How awful the floods in Colorado last night a lot missing. They said nearly 200 but haven’t this morning. Was watching the weather channel about it and was surprised to see Keith Carson who was once in Bangor/Portland.
Then the terrible fire in New Jersey, they just got started on the board walk but a lot say they’ll start over. I think I’d give up…..but glad they’re not.
Then in Hawaii molasses got spilled from a boat and is killing all the fish because they can’t breathe.
Here in Maine let’s hope everyone has power back after the terrible showers…I can’t imagine Islesboro with no power at all. Just seems worse with water all around I guess.
Did you see the 3 lady’s in Kennebunk every Tuesday who stand out with flags on a corner and have every week since 9-11.
Speaking of flags, Marlene is planning a burn your flags on Veterans Day. So keep them or get them to her. More information later.
We need some adults to help take down the flags on Route 7 before winter. The fire department isn’t going to. You need to be 18 or over. Maybe we can have coffee and donuts after. It’ll be a while but let Marlene, or me, know if you’re interested. They look so nice but we don’t want them to be up this winter.
Coast of Maine
Today is visit your lighthouse day. There are 22 lighthouses on the coast of Maine.
Do you have a fire extinguisher near your stove (and dryer, I do)? I heard on the scanner a lady had a grease fire and put water on it and the fire went everywhere.
Sounds like shows this fall are going to be a lot of comedy instead of all the murder/killing etc… we need it.
Has your child been vaccinated for whopping cough? It’s terrible in other states…did you see the poor baby trying to breathe?
Have you got most of your garden stuff out? Lisa, Chris, Brooke, and I went to Shirley’s. Robert sent up a basket of veggies to them, again. They have a great time canning, eating etc. They can’t have a garden like they used to. Dana and Carlie help the a lot. I remember when Shirley made a big kettle of spaghetti sauce and canned it; she used it for pizza sauce and everything. I think I may have once on the farm, she cooked tomatoes, onions, green peppers, celery etc. and then put it through a strainer. Gee… I think spaghetti sauce was on sale this week for 59 cents, that’s me!
This was so interesting to me, maybe because I never did or could ride a bike, to see them today. Here are a few things…. hope you enjoy it.
Started when Lisa called from Dixmont to ask if I’d heard of a bike ride. She said they are coming down route 7. I called Polly and then sat on the porch waiting. Two hungry birds came to my hanging planter. A few bikes went by. Sure different then a motor cycle ride. About noon I was getting ready to go to Belfast and thought I’ll have to follow them up Ames Hill. I got to 137 and 7…gee they turned right (the ones ahead of me). Didn’t know Brooks Town Office was one of their stops for drinks and snacks etc. So as I headed to Belfast I figured they’d come across Morgan Pitch. No bikes so then watched at Evan’s Corner…guess they went 139….I turned at Head of Tide and meet 2-3. “Hey folks… Belfast is the other way”. On toward Belfast I meet Belfast ambulance...not a good sign. I started back and met 2-3 very seldom, saw a group as started up 7 and saw a few up the road more and then a few more even further had stopped to rest probably after that hill and right by the fence was sheep, goats and yes a big white dog whose in there as if to say “you guys got a problem?” So on my route meeting 2-3 through Brooks, a couple resting by where Paul’s Hardware was then on to Jackson by Heather & Bucks a Capital Ambulance no lights…maybe waiting for someone. Down by Darol’s house I could see a van with flashing light, “ha the end” but ahead of it were 2-3 bikers plus a handicap bike using his hands. So now, just watched news, they are in Belfast for the night at a boathouse lawn. There are tents everywhere (someone must take them in a truck). They’re having a Chicken BBQ. Sun rise in morning beautiful. They went all different places like Cadillac Mountain to see the sun rise on a bike…no thanks. I did once on a project graduation trip in a bus, never again. I have a picture of Lisa and I watching the sun rise. I hope we enjoyed it, was younger then in 1984, I believe. Anyway what a thing, with over 200 bikes participating and 111 of them were from Maine. I forgot the miles but think it was 400 plus. I enjoyed it here in Jackson and am sure they did.
