John A. Wescott
John A. Wescott, 76, of South China, died Friday, Aug. 30, at his home.
He was born in Cambridge, Mass., on May 13, 1937, the son of Horace and Margaret (Anthony) Wescott.
John graduated from Crosby High School in Belfast, attended the University of Maine at Orono, and received his Bachelors Degree from Beloit College in Beloit, Wisc., in 1959. He served with the U.S. Army from 1960 to 1963.
John had worked for the State of Maine DHHS, as a caseworker for Elder and Adult Services, retiring in 2002.
He loved animals, reading, playing scrabble and was a man with a remarkable and unique sense of humor.
He is survived by his wife of 23 years Aileen Wescott of South China; a son Christopher Wescott and his wife Shelley of Vassalboro; grandson Corbin Wescott; stepson Mark Burhoe and his wife Manon of Fayette; step daughter Karen Taylor and her son Danny of Manchester; a sister Toni West of Bourne, Mass., and her children Dwain and Penny and their families.
There will be no visiting or services at this time. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Freedom.
Those wishing may make memorial contributions to their favorite animal shelter in memory of John.
