John L. Dean
John L. Dean, 88, of Northport, died at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Togus Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2013. He was born in Northport April 16, 1925 to the late Roscoe and Hazel (Morse) Dean.
John served in the U.S. Army, and was a Purple Heart recipient after being wounded in World War II during the Battle of the Bulge. He also served as an MP at the Nuremberg trials. After his father died in 1955, he came home to take care of the family farm.
Later in life, John owned his own wood business and drove a wood truck.
He enjoyed gardening, reading and telling stories.
John was predeceased by his wife Marilyn Bonin Dean in 1982; his two children Katherine and John, Jr.; his siblings Kenneth Dean, Earl Dean and Bertha Bonin; and a special friend Lydia Pendleton.
He is survived by his children Sandra Volskay and her husband Tim of Vero Beach, FL, Susan Smith and her husband Daniel of Northport, Ronald Dean of Stillwater, Linda Dean of Belfast, and Jack Dean and his wife Angel of Brewer; sister Barbara Reilly and her husband Peter of Orlando; six grandchildren Kristy, Lucas, Mallie, Mariah, Taylor and Allie; four great-grandchildren Abbagail, Asela, Jackson and Jacob; and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to a time of visitation from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday Oct. 4, at Riposta Funeral Home on 182 Waldo Ave. in Belfast where a funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. A committal at Northport cemetery will follow with military honors.
