‘Kaleidoscopes’ back at Camden National
Belfast — A new exhibit of Paula B. Cannon's “Kaleidoscopes” is on exhibit through August at Camden National Bank on Main Street. Cannon, who has been working on kaleidoscopes since last summer, said she enjoys being able to take one of her photographs and turn it into something very different from the original image.
Cannon continues to use her original photos of flowers and gardens to create these kaleidoscopes. Though some of these retain characteristics of the original photos, others take the images into the celestial realm. Cannon also has a show called “Kaleidoscopic Eastport” on view at the The Commons in Eastport. Photos of many of the older buildings in the center of Eastport were used in the hopes of viewing them in a new light, focusing on many of the beautiful architectural details. Because a heart shape was visible in many of these kaleidoscopes, Cannon also dubbed the show “For the Love of Eastport.” She plans to highlight other Maine communities in her kaleidoscopes, including Belfast.
Locally Cannon's work, notecards, posters and matted prints are available for purchase through Lupine Cottage on Route 1 and at Brambles on Main Stree. For the last few years, her photos have been on exhibit at the Belfast Soup Kitchen in the Belfast Center.
