Keller’s art in ‘Act of Becoming’
Belfast — “The Act of Becoming: A Tetractys of Masonic Symbolism” will open with a First Friday Art Walk reception Nov. 1 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Square the Circle Gallery and Studio, on the second floor of 137 High St.
Because her gallery and studio is in city’s Masonic Temple building and because her paintings are all about symbolism, Katenia Keller has been studying Masonic symbolism. She sketched symbols that are carved and cast on the inside and outside of the building, and these sketches are becoming 10 paintings that she hanging in a pattern called a tetractys, which was sacred to the Pythagoreans.
“Because I am out of wall space, I needed to build a wall in front of two interior windows in the gallery. This 'wall' has become a 'temple entrance' inspired by the downstairs entrance and it now holds the paintings and frames them,” Keller said.
This three-dimensional sculpture is evolving and will most probably still be in process during the Art Walk.
“I will enjoy conceptualizing with gallery visitors that night,” the artist said.
