Sixth ANNUAL FRYE MOUNTAIN HERITAGE TOUR

SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 28th

PRE-REGISTRATION

BARBARA BOULAY: 589-4414 or Debi Stephens: 589-4760

Once again the Montville Historical Society is offering horsedrawn wagon tours of Frye Mountain on September, 28th with a tour in the morning and another in the afternoon. Each ride aboard the open wagons lasts about 2 hours and there are six wagons. Frye Mountain, now a state games preserve, was once the home to many families of Montville, Morrill and Knox. Most of the farms were bought by (sold off to) the Federal government in the late 1930's. On the tour we travel past marked sites of old farms, schools and cemeteries and a forgotten part of Frye including narratives about the places and the people who lived here. Last year several people shared information and stories they knew about Frye Mountain and its residents, and we’re looking forward to learning more this year.

Pre-registration is needed to confirm a seat on the tour. This year we are asking for a $20 deposit to be refunded when and if you show up for the ride. We are doing this to insure that all drivers, who donate their horses, equipment and time, have a full wagon load. The times for the rides will be announced. For more information and to sign up, please call Barbara Boulay at 589-4414 or Debi Stephens at 589-4760

Until Next Week,

Enjoy the Fresh Veggies. There is Fresh Peaches for the Farmer's Market. I have some, and they are delicious. I have made a few pickles. It is always nice to get Fresh Fruits, and Veggies near home. Curra's Farm Stand is Open weekends now. And will be Open Sept. 19, 20 and 21st. Then will close Columbus Day. Open 10- 6 pm. Aunt Elsie Harris called me, and she is doing well, and is 92. We talked about the living conditions of long ago on Frye Mtn. There is a DVD being made of the Horse and Wagon Tours, and Frye Mtn. Stay tuned for it. It will be presented on PBS..Exciting news.
