Join Jason Chandler, a Maine Master Naturalist, guide and teacher, and Caitlin Thurrell, farmer and educator, for a free outdoor wilderness skills workshop at 210 Oak Hill Road, Swanville. Learn from Jason how to make a fire with a bow drill, and which natural materials to use for drill and tinder. Caitlin will lead "Plant Fiber Work" which will include cordage-making and weaving. Bring water, lunch, sharp knife, backpack, tick repellent. All ages welcome! Co-sponsored by Belfast Bay Watershed Coalition and Coastal Mountains Land Trust.
Directions from Belfast:
Oak Hill Road is an extension of High Street from Belfast. Leave town on High Street, which becomes City Point Road and then Oak Hill Road. When you cross the railroad tracks (at the old train station) at the Kahler Road, go 1.2 miles more to a driveway on the left (house is out of sight). The driveway is after a hill, and goes through a big field. Note that just before you get there, you will pass the two ends of the Roberts Road, a loop road. The next left after the two Roberts Roads is the event driveway. The mailbox #210 is 20 yards north of the driveway. If you have come from Belfast to the mailbox, backtrack 20 yards to the event driveway. Questions? Please call 338-1147.
