Leavitt guests at Åarhus
Belfast — Åarhus Gallery will host city artist Marc Leavitt as guest artist for the month of August. The show will run from Tuesday, July 29, through Aug. 31 with an opening reception Friday, Aug. 1, from 5 to 8 p.m.
Leavitt is an artist who investigates, examines and studies, images, text, signs and music, with a paintbrush and color. His research manifests as multilayered abstract paintings, but only after days, sometimes weeks, of analysis of color relationships that in turn require more visual discussion and particularization. His oil paintings exude a scrumptious attention to detail, layer over meticulous layer.
Leavitt’s paintings and works on paper have been placed in United States and international collections; and featured in Architectural Digest and other publications. Selected local juried exhibitions include the “I-95 Triennial — From Connecticut to Maine” at the University of Maine Museum of Art; and the Center for Maine Contemporary Art’s “Art to Collect Now.”
Åarhus invites the public to meet the artist and explore his first solo exhibition with the gallery. Åarhus Gallery, 50 Main St. is open Tuesdays through Sundays from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Mondays by chance. For more information, visit aarhusgallery.com or call 338-0001.
