Let’s Go! Waldo 5-2-1-0 banner now at Waldo County YMCA
The Let’s Go! Waldo 5-2-1-0 banner is on the move in Waldo County and now can be found at the Waldo County YMCA, a year-round place to be active for the 5-2-1-0-recommended one hour of physical activity a day.
The YMCA preschool and after-school programs are Let’s Go! Waldo sites, working to implement the strategies of the 5-2-1-0 message: eat five servings of fruits and vegetables a day, limit recreational screen time (TV, computers, iPads, etc.) to two hours a day, get one hour of physical activity a day, and consume zero sugary drinks a day.
Regular exercise or physical activity helps people function better, keeps heart disease, diabetes and a host of other diseases at bay, and is a key ingredient for losing weight, according to a news release from the Waldo County YMCA.
The 2008 Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans state that being physically active on a regular basis improves your chances of living longer and living healthier, helps prevent type 2 diabetes, helps prevent the loss of bone known as osteoporosis, reduces the risk of falling, improves mood, prevents weight gain, promotes weight loss (when combined with a lower-calorie diet), helps keep weight off after weight loss, improves heart, lung and muscle fitness, and improves sleep.
The Waldo County YMCA offers programs and activities for people of all ages and abilities. General group and specialty fitness classes are available, as well as a wide selection of youth and adult sports programs. The facility includes the Tom and Sally Savage Pool Complex, an indoor walk/jog track, an air-conditioned fitness center, a wellness/aerobics classroom, a gymnasium, a teen room, and family friendly shower and changing facilities.
The public is welcome to visit the Waldo County YMCA and see people say “It’s a great place to belong!” More information is available at www.waldocountyymca.org.
