Lincolnville to go to bid on town office renovation
Lincolnville — Lincolnville Board of Selectmen convened Feb. 25 to discuss a variety of issues including the town administrator's draft budget and finalization of plans for renovation of Lincolnville Town Office.
Amanda Austen of 2A Architects attended the meeting, where Lincolnville Town Administrator David Kinney said she discussed finishing details of the project including paint colors and "some mechanics." He said he anticipates the town will go to bid with the project by early March.
"We hope to be out to bid within 10 days," Kinney said Feb. 26.
He said standard advertising procedure will apply to soliciting bids, which will be due back to the town by April 3. If all goes according to plan a groundbreaking is expected the first week of May. Construction is expected to be complete in November, said Kinney.
Funding for the new town office was approved by Lincolnville voters Nov. 6, 2012, after several failed attempts to capture voter support for a town office upgrade during the past decade.
The referendum question asked voters to appropriate $470,000 from the Capital Investment Reserve Account and authorize up to $220,000 in general obligation bonds to fund the renovation and expansion of the existing Lincolnville Town Office. Residents cast 806 ballots in favor and 613 against, according to a previously published report.
The board of selectmen and municipal building committee have been working with 2A Architects to fine-tune the building design during the past several months.
"It's been minor revisions, the building hasn't gotten any bigger or any smaller," Kinney said.
While the renovation is under way town office staff will relocate to an offsite, temporary town office to allow contractors to work more efficiently, according to previously published reports. Kinney said the process of finding a temporary location suitable for use as the town office will begin shortly.
"We're getting ready to go," said Kinney.
