Municipal meetings

All meetings are held at Lincolnville Central School unless otherwise noted.

The School Committee meets Monday, Oct. 1, at 7 p.m.

A busy Saturday

This coming Saturday, Sept. 29, is chockful of events to choose from:

Flu clinic

From 9 a.m.-noon get your flu shot from the Camden District Nurses at the Grange: free with your Medicare card or $25 without. Call CDNA at 230-6272 or Elaine Davis at 236-2304.

Farmers’ Market

And also from 9 a.m.-noon, the Farmers’ Market will be set up at its usual location, the old Grampa Hall’s. Come by for some home-baked, or raised, or produced goodies – breads, seafood, sweets, maple syrup, coffee, etc. and check out a book at the Community Library, set up in the corner. The little ones will especially like the bookshelves sized just for them, and there are lots and lots of children’s books.

Republican Town Committee

At 10 a.m. the Republican Town Committee will meet at the L’ville Improvement Association building. All registered Republicans welcome. Coffee and muffins will be served. Any questions, call Janet Plausse, 789-5811.

Museum open house

Stop by the Schoolhouse Museum (second floor Beach School/L.I.A. building) for an open house, 1-4 p.m. Get a door prize just for coming, but best of all, browse through the Historical Society’s collection of memorabilia, photographs, local genealogies and more. Connie Parker, who knows the collection inside out, will be on hand to help you find things

Meet the candidate

Lloyd Chase, candidate for House District 44, of which L’ville is part (along with Appleton, Hope, Islesboro, Liberty, Morrill and Searsmont), will be at the Grange from 2-4 p.m. to meet the voters. Come in and say hi.

50th anniversary

There will just be time to pop in at the Lobster Pound to say congratulations to our longtime former Town Administrator Skip Day and his wife, Arlene, celebrating a half-century of marriage! They’ll be there from 2:45 to 5 p.m.

Harvest moon

Still have some energy left? Then drive on down to the Beech Hill Preserve in Rockport and hike up to Beechnut, the stone hut at the top of the hill to enjoy the rise of the full moon over the bay, along with activities co-sponsored by Coastal Mountains Land Trust and Camden Public Library. Alternatively, you could park down at L’ville Beach and see the same moonrise. Or, as I plan to do, peek out the bedroom window for a quick glimpse of that full, orange moon (just to make sure it’s still in the sky), then pull the shade and hop into bed.

Pillow talk

It was 4 a.m. and we’d just opened our eyes to begin our morning ritual, a slow conversation that ranges back and forth, neither of us really awake, usually running through the day to come. Then came a thoughtful murmur from his side of the bed – “Man, those were good pork chops…” I guess the romance is over.

Sam’s pork

And so they were, the best pork chops we’d had in some time. They’d been delivered to our door just the day before by Sam Mudge, to be known from now on in our family as our granddaughter Maggie greeted him – Farmer Sam. Sam is farming up on VanCycle Road, experimenting with growing various grains, as well as raising pigs. He sold the pork via the Bulletin Board this summer, and that’s how we came to have those delicious pork chops the other night.
