Lions, Mustangs among top meet performers

Richards, Bailey, Njaa, Nealey, Milani earn first places in recent meets

After sensational regular seasons, one can expect Belfast and Mount View indoor track athletes to make serious noise at the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class B championship meet on Saturday, Feb. 9 at 9 a.m. at Bowdoin College in Brunswick.

On Friday night, Jan. 25, Belfast competed in a league meet at Bowdoin College, while on Saturday morning, Jan. 26, Mount View participated in a league meet at Colby College in Waterville.

The team scores from the Jan. 25 meet were:

Brunswick girls 119, Mount Ararat of Topsham 97, Edward Little of Auburn 60, Erskine Academy of South China 45, Belfast 36.5, Cony of Augusta 28.5, Morse of Bath 18, Gardiner 12 and Lincoln Academy of Newcastle 4.

Edward Little boys 112, Brunswick 90, Mount Ararat 73.50, Belfast 47, Cony 46.50, Gardiner 35, Lincoln Academy 13, Erskine Academy 12 and Morse 7.

The team scores from the Jan. 26 meet were:

Waterville girls 142, Messalonskee of Oakland 86, Lawrence of Fairfield 50, Winslow 45, Lewiston 33, Skowhegan 25, Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield 14, Camden Hills 11, Oceanside of Rockland/thomaston 10 and Medomak Valley of Waldoboro and Mount View 7.

Jan. 25 meet

Grant Richards (55-meter hurdles), Hannah Bailey (shot put), Allie Njaa (high jump) and Drew Nealey (pole vault) keyed the Lions with a first-place efforts.

Lorenzo Milani keyed the Mustangs with a first-place effort in the 200 meters.
