Belfast — The Belfast wrestling team hosted a congregation of Eagles — those from Erskine Academy of South China and Lincoln Academy of Newcastle — in a tri-meet on Wednesday night, Jan. 8, a meet which saw the Lions prove to be, overall, the best grapplers on the mat.
The Lions defended their den with ease as they came away with a 62-18 win over Erskine Academy and a 67-12 victory over Lincoln Academy.
The individual Lion results, with Belfast grapplers listed first, were:
106 pounds — Austin Merando was pinned by Cameron Grass, EA; and won by forfeit over Lincoln Academy.
113 pounds — Brendan Bruns won by forfeit over Erskine Academy and Lincoln Academy.
120 pounds — Zachary Sheafe was pinned by Isaac Taylor, EA; and won by forfeit over Lincoln Academy.
126 pounds — Brandon Waterman won by forfeit over Erskine Academy; and pinned Michael Baty, LA.
132 pounds — Matt Oxton lost to Jakob Church, EA; and was pinned by Alec Young, LA.
138 pounds — Walker Roberts lost to Joseph York, EA; and beat James Benner, LA.
145 pounds — Mike McFadden beat Samuel Wilkinson, EA; and won by forfeit over Lincoln Academy.
