Lions split tri-meet with Indians, Black RaidersKelley pins down 100th career victory in match against host Winslow
Winslow — It was a memorable day for the Belfast wrestling team Dec. 20 with the Lions taking part in a tri-meet against Skowhegan and host Winslow.
While the Lions managed a split with the Black Raiders and Indians, BAHS senior Peter Kelley secured his 99th and 100th career wins in the meet with pin victories over Skowhegan's Justin McGuire and Winslow's Sean Cody.
Coach Rick Kelley, Peter's father, was excited for the program and for his son's individual accomplishment.
"We were kind of hoping it would happen at home, as anyone would in front of a home crowd," the coach said. "But we had a pretty good crowd up there and he had a big smile on his face. It was pretty special. And it's something he's been looking forward to since the beginning of last year."
"From a coach's perspective and, of course, a dad's perspective, it was a pretty proud moment for everybody," coach Kelley said.
The Lions earned a 46-18 win over the Black Raiders and were downed 50-15 by the Indians.
