Little League, Cal Ripken championships on-deckJune 13 rain pushes back local games
With high school and middle school baseball now nearly in the rear view mirror, local youth leagues take center stage as league championship games are on the horizon.
With heavy rain hitting the Midcoast June 13, pushing back many playoff games throughout area leagues, championship games have already been rescheduled, in many cases.
The following is an up-to-date schedule for area championship games as of Thursday afternoon.
The playoffs for the Belfast/Northport/Swanville Cal Ripken League began this week, with the finals slated for Monday, June 18 at 5 p.m. at Walsh Field in Belfast.
The playoffs for Waldo County Little League also began this week, with the West and East finals set for Saturday, June 16.
The East final will feature Liberty and Morrill and will be played at noon in Liberty, while the West final will feature Frankfort and Stockton and will be played at 3 p.m. in Frankfort.
The winners of those two games will play a best-of-three series for the crown, which would begin Tuesday, June 19 at the home field of the higher seed. Game two would be Thursday, June 21 at the opposing team's home field, while game three, if necessary, would return to the home site of the higher seed Saturday, June 23. Games one and two would begin at 6 p.m., while the time for game three is yet to be determined.
