Belfast — The deadline for filing nomination papers to appear on the ballot as a candidate for City Council has passed and only one race is contested.

City Councilor for Ward 1 is the only race that will be contested in November as Christopher Knight and Mary P.L. Mortier prepare to face off.

As part of the process for contested races, a drawing was held Friday, Aug. 31, at City Hall with Mortier chosen as the name to appear first on the ballot.

The City Councilor seats for Wards two and five are also open, with incumbent Ward 2 councilor Roger Lee and Ward 5 Councilor Nancy Hamilton filing their nomination papers to appear on the ballot.

There were two open seats on the RSU 20 Board of Directors and only two candidates –– Alan Wood and Jason Perkins –– returned their nomination papers to appear on the ballot.
