Local women collaborate on book
Searsport — Author Peggy Alden Stout and illustrator Rainy Brooks will discuss their new book, “Letters from the Trail,” Wednesday, Aug. 21 at 6:30 p.m. at Carver Memorial Library, 12 Union St.
“Letters from the Trail” includes excerpts from a collection of handwritten letters by Stout, a 50-plus-year-old woman from Maine and Maryland, written as she hiked the entire 2,170 miles of the Appalachian Trail, complemented by graphite drawings created by Maine artist Brooks.
This collaborative effort by two Searsport women who have been friends for more than 45 years — one a writer, the other an artist — as resulted in a charming, inspirational book for those who want to hike. “Letters from the Trail” is informative, addressing the questions people ask, and a visual tribute to life on the trail, all rolled into one.
