Belfast — The fourth annual Belfast Street Party will take place Monday evening, Aug. 6 from 4 to 11 p.m., with High Street closed to vehicular traffic from MacLeod Furniture to the Main Street traffic light. This year’s theme is luau, and everyone is encouraged to don their most outrageous island wear.

As has become tradition, the fun-for-all summer event will boast food, feats of skill, live music, games, dancing and revelry for people of all ages. There will be continuous music on the Street Party Stage next to the front of the Colonial Theater, headlined by Breakers Jazz Band and; Maine Country Music Hall of Famer Don Nickerson and Country Mist; and capped by gotta-dance classic rock and  R&B from Sistalicious with Joanne Parent.

On the streets will be games for all ages, juggling, food and ice cream venders, BBQ, whoopie pies, free popcorn, hula hoop experts, fortune telling, face painting, a salsa dance with Courtney Porter, free bounce houses and other family-friendly interests such as the bucking bronco rider, a huge climbing wall and the rat race maze, bungee jumping and a dunking tank.

Organizations such as the Belfast Parks and Recreation department, the Belfast Food Co-Op, the Waldo County YMCA, church groups and school groups will have events or food for young and old. In years past, itinerant buskers have worked the edges of the crowd so attendees can expect the unexpected. Many Belfast businesses will remain open offering partiers “one-evening only” specials.

For more information or to participate or volunteer, friend Our Town Belfast on Facebook; call 388-1975; send email to mike@pilut.com; or visit ourtownbelfast.org. If the weather is inclement, it will take place on the first clear evening thereafter.
