Rockport — The fourth annual “LUV ME" 5-kilometer road race will take off Saturday, Feb. 16. The host of the event is the Penobscot Bay YMCA.

The start times are 8:45 a.m. for walkers and 9 a.m. for runners. The race benefits the children served by “Go! Malawi” and its founder, Midcoast native Janet Littlefield.

Day-of-race registration will take place beginning at 7:45 a.m. at the YMCA, 116 Union Street, Rockport (near the Camden line).

Preregistration is $15 for singles, $25 for couples and $35 for families of three, with $10 for each additional family member. Teams of six or more are eligible for $10 per participant donation; sign up until Thursday, Feb. 14 by emailing reade@freepressonline.com for information.

Day-of-registration also will be available at $18 for singles, $30 for couples and $40 for families (plus $10 for extra family members).

The "LUV Me" course is a beautiful run or walk with rolling hills through neighborhoods starting near the YMCA and passing by the post office and library to the Belted Galloway cows before looping back to the YMCA up Chestnut Street and through Greenfield Estates.

The race is hosted by “Go! Malawi” area runners Julie Sells, Rebecca Jacobs, Troy Peasley, Russ Wolfertz, Andrew Bonarrigo and Reade Brower. To join the team's next destination marathon and half-marathon in Savannah, Ga. on Dec. 9, 2013 email: reade@freepressonline.com.

The LUV Me 5K is a wonderful way to celebrate Valentine’s Day by walking or running with your significant other. Or, if you want to compete, enter the couples challenge with the prize for fastest couple being both bragging rights and a gift package.

"Of course, we love it when you come in costume; this race promises to honor the cupid or devil in you," said Brower, the race organizer.

Walkers, those with baby strollers and well-behaved dogs are welcomed.

This is the second in the MIdcoast's five race series, the next being the "Lucky Leprechaun" 5K on Sunday, March 17 from Trackside Station Restaurant in Rockland.
