Maine Photography Show selects
Boothbay Harbor — Internationally acclaimed Canadian nature photographer, gardener and writer Freeman Patterson has selected 105 images from 933 submissions to be included in the 2014 Maine Photography Show. From Acton to York, 128 Maine cities and towns can boast photographers who sent entries for consideration for this year's show, scheduled to open to the public April 12 at Boothbay Region Art Foundation’s downtown gallery.
Images submitted by Maine photographers were entered and selected for prizes in one or more of three categories: Color; Black and White; and Special Theme Flowers. The Student Category, represented by any Maine photographer 18 and younger, was judged separately. Along with his selections, Patterson sent notes about his selections that will be shared during the invitation-only awards ceremonies. The Maine Photography Show awards cash prizes to the first four places in each category and to an image judged Best of Show.
Midcoast entries selected for MPS 2014 came from Suzanne Theodora White of Appleton; Charles Laurier Dufour, Beth Anne Gordley and Paula B. Cannon of Belfast; student Yanmei McElhaney of Camden; student Kelsie Merrill of Hope; Kathleen Toubman and Elena Laustsen of Rockland; Adam Osgood, Ni Rong and Barb Bausch of Rockport; Paul Bass of Waldoboro; and Nicki Dunbar of Warren.
The next steps for those selected include printing and framing and delivering images according to guidelines set forth by the Maine Photography Show.
