Maine’s own Erica Brown developed an interest in music at an early age. Growing up, she competed in fiddle contests with children twice her age; traveled throughout the United States and Canada with the Maine French Fiddlers; and performed as a special guest with Mac McHale & The Old-Time Radio Gang for five years.
Brown has competed in and won numerous fiddle contests throughout New England and Canada. She was a recipient of a 2006 Maine Arts Commission Traditional Arts Apprenticeship Award and was recognized as a Master Artist by the Maine Arts Commission that same year. Brown has performed as a member of numerous groups including The Stowaways, Darlin’ Corey and The Record Family Band. Currently, she has her own bluegrass band, which performs all over New England. The Bluegrass Connection features Steve Roy, Matt Shipman, Ken Taylor and Read McNamara.
Built from a 100-year-old barn with attached farmhouse, the Unity College Centre for the Performing Arts is a vibrant cultural and arts center that offers an eclectic mix of music, films, art, lectures and other various events. For more information, visit unity.edu/uccpa.
