Man, 20, arrested on sex charges involving 13-year-old
Frankfort — Police arrested a 20-year-old man on sex charges Monday afternoon, June 25, shortly after receiving a complaint from the parents of the 13-year-old alleged victim earlier that day.
Police say Robert Allen Cawthron, who shows a North Billerica, Mass., address on his driver's license, but is currently residing in Frankfort, was arrested on charges of Class A gross sexual assault and Class D unlawful sexual touching after Detective Merl Reed of the Waldo County Sheriff's Office investigated the complaint.
Waldo County Chief Deputy Jeff Trafton said the parents of the alleged victim called police after learning that their child had had sexual contact with Cawthron at some point Sunday June 24.
Trafton said Reed attempted to interview Cawthron, but was unable to do so.
"He lawyered up and he wouldn't talk," Trafton said of Cawthron.
Despite Cawthron's refusal to discuss the matter with the detective, Trafton said, Cawthron was promptly arrested and charged.
Cawthron is scheduled to appear at Waldo County Superior Court in Belfast Thursday, July 26.
