Marine Ecology Walk
|Aug 17, 2013|
Friends of Sears Island (FOSI) and Belfast Bay Watershed Coalition (BBWC) will hold a Marine Ecology Walk on the beach at Sears Island. You will explore communities, some hidden, that live in the intertidal zone among the rocks, sand, grasses and rockweed. There is no charge for the walk, but you must register in advance by calling 548-0142.
The walk will be led by Dr. Brian Beal, Professor of Marine Ecology at the University of Maine at Machias (UMM) and Research Director at the Down East Institute for Research and Education (DEI).
The walk will begin at 1 p.m. Walkers are advised to wear water resistant footwear and attire appropriate for weather. Bring sun and bug protection, water, and a notebook, camera and hand lens (optional). No pets please.
