Mariner, Windjammer girls prevail in April 30 court games

Belfast, Medomak Valley squads also in action

Several Midcoast high school teams were in action on the tennis court Wednesday, April 30, a scenario which provided a mixed bag of results for Oceanside, Camden Hills, Belfast and Medomak Valley squads.

The following is a recap of reported results:

Boys tennis

Erskine Academy 3, Camden Hills 2

At South China April 30, the Windjammers (1-1) were nipped on the road against the host Eagles.

The individual results, with Camden Hills players listed first, were: In singles, Austin Pohlman beat Dominic Pizzo, 6-1, 6-2; Matt Morse lost to Richard Preston, 5-7, 7-6 (4), 6-7 (4); and Luke Burstein lost to Brandon Smith, 5-7, 2-6.

In doubles, James Annis and Josiah Simko lost to Cameron Grass and Jon Ballantyne, 4-6, 6-3, 4-6; and Colby Arau and Alex Forcillo beat Vince Wang and Brody Hodsdon, 6-2, 6-2.

Lincoln Academy 5, Medomak Valley 0

At Newcastle April 30, the Panthers (0-2) were downed in convincing fashion by the talented Eagles.

The individual results, with Medomak Valley players listed first, were: Evra Hinkley lost to Zach Hagar, 1-6, 0-6; Aaron Smeltzer lost to Michael McCormick, 7-6 (7-4), 1-6, 0-6; and Richard Kinney lost to Eli Ganem, 7-6 (7-5), 4-6, 2-6.

In doubles, Cyril Miller and Greg Wadsworth lost to Theo Seidel and Harrison Ransley, 0-6, 0-6; and Medomak Valley forfeited at second doubles.

Oceanside 4, Winslow 1

At Rockland April 30, the Mariners (2-0) had no trouble with the Black Raiders and picked up their second win of the campaign.

Individual results, with Oceanside players listed first, were: In singles, Cameron Butler beat Aaron Carpenter, 6-1, 6-1; Nate Philbrook beat Logan Vashon, 2-6, 6-3, 6-4; and Eli Thorbjornson beat Brandon Deas, 6-1, 6-2.

In doubles, Johannes Korhoren and Jack Crockett lost to Justin Burgher and Matt Vashon, 6-7, 3-6; and Logan Finnegan and Kyle Waters beat Tanner Jackson and Cory O'Connor, 2-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Waterville 5, Belfast 0

At Waterville April 30, the Lions (0-2) had their hands full with the Purple Panthers and were downed by the talented hosts.

Individual results, with Belfast players listed first, were: In singles, David Flood lost to Zach Disch, 0-6, 0-6; Logan Mitchell lost to Adrian Rivas in a tiebreaker 7-3 (full score unavailable); and Asa Lewis lost to John Kaminski, 2-6, 1-6.

In doubles, Tanner Luther and Eduardo DeSaPinto lost to Joe Oliver and Bridget Holly, 2-6, 1-6; and Ben Flood and Gustavo Mendez lost to Will Senett and Langdon Holly, 1-6, 1-6.

Girls tennis

Oceanside 3, Winslow 2

At Winslow April 30, the Mariners (2-0) came out on top in a close match with the Black Raiders in pro sets.

The individual results, with Oceanside players listed first, were: In singles, Lily Butler lost to Breanna O'Conner, 3-8; Alayna Joyce beat Kalianna Carpenter, 8-5; and Becca Boggs beat Bria Crosley, 8-1.

In doubles, Mary Allen and Clara Feltus beat Lillie Pellerin and Katie Gallant, 9-8; and Abby Billington and Kaila Harris lost to Caitlyn Hiller and Sally Greenlaw, 3-8.

Camden Hills 5, Erskine Academy 0

At Rockport April 30, the Windjammers (2-0) netted an important win against the visiting Eagles.

The individual results, with Camden Hills players listed first, were: In singles, Abby Blakely beat Emma Wilkinson, 6-0, 6-1; Carrie Helmholz beat Brittany Ibbitson, 6-0, 6-0; and Katie Vannorsdall beat Sparkles Fraser, 6-1, 6-0.

In doubles, Hannah Olsen and Sophia Landry beat Jordan Bowie and Kayla Parsons, 6-2, 6-0; and Emily Haining and Serene Landry beat Sam Beden and Ashley Sylvester, scores unavailable.

Lincoln Academy 5, Medomak Valley 0

At Newcastle April 30, the Eagles soared to a convincing win over the Panthers (0-2).

The individual results, with Medomak Valley players listed first, were: Maggie Ryan lost to Nettie Hoaglan, 3-6, 1-6; Elly Baubonis lost to Eloise Kelly, 6-7, 6-7; and Morgan Black lost to Polina Scimone, 1-6, 1-6.

In doubles, Nachelle Monroy and Stacy Wadsworth lost to Katie Westaver and Alex Welch, 0-6, 0-6; and Medomak Valley forfeited at second doubles.

Waterville 4, Belfast 1

At Belfast April 30, the perennially strong Purple Panthers were just that as they knocked off the host Lions (0-2) in pro sets.

The individual results, with Belfast players listed first, were: In singles, Mariah Hurd lost to Colleen O'Donnell, 0-8; Ashley Keene lost to Emily Dufour, 0-8; and Amalia Kockerols lost to Olivia Bennison, 2-8.

In doubles, Lacey Durkee and MacKenzie Moore lost to Emma Cristan and Chelsea Cayer, 2-8; and Madison Pickering and Lucey Bonneville beat Fotini Shanos and Sarah Wolman, 8-6.
