Midcoast Babe Ruth League enjoys recent diamond gems

The Midcoast Babe Ruth League baseball season is now in full swing as many teams look to make a push for the upcoming postseason.

The playoffs are slated to begin Tuesday, July 3 with the championship game set for Sunday, July 8 at the Marge Jones Recreational Facility.

The following is a recap of recently-reported results:

Georges Valley 16, Rockland Café 4

At Rockland June 24, the visitors broke up an otherwise close contest with 13 runs in the final two frames en route to a convincing win.

Leading Georges Valley at the plate were Travis Frye (single, run, 2 stolen bases), Titus Kaewthong (2 singles, 2 runs, RBI, stolen base), Scott Strong (double, 2 runs, RBI, stolen base), Andrew King (single, 2 runs, RBI, 2 stolen bases), Thomas Curtis (2 doubles, run, 4 RBIs), Walker Ranney (2 singles, 2 runs, RBI), Jimmy Strong (2 runs, RBI), Nick Davis (single, run, RBI, stolen base), Caleb Jacob (run), Sam Townsend (2 singles, 2 RBIs), Rico Baudanza (single, run, 2 RBIs) and Dallas Ball (2 singles, run, RBI).

For Rockland Café, Ryan Allender (double, run), Zac Roman (triple, 2 runs, stolen base), Nick Mazurek (run), Zach Peaco (2 singles, 3 RBIs), Isaiah Green (single, RBI) and Jake Bartlett (single) led the charge.

Scott Strong tossed six innings for Georges Valley, allowing six hits and six walks, with one strikeout. Emanuel Simons, Zach Peaco, Jake Bartlett and Noah Slivinsky all pitched for Rockland Café, scattering 16 hits and nine walks, with three strikeouts.

Penobscot Bay Dentistry 12, Georges Valley 1 (6 inns.)

At Thomaston June 23, Penobscot Bay Dentistry drilled 16 hits and scored runs in bunches on its way to an 11-run win.

Asa Lewis (3 hits, 2 runs, 3 RBIs), Emery Dinsmore (3 hits, run, 2 stolen bases), Alex Flagg (2 hits, RBI) and Anthony Defeo (2 hits, RBI) led Penobscot Bay Dentistry, while Georges Valley was keyed at the plate by Travis Frye (double) and Titus Kaewthong (single).

Four Penobscot Bay Dentistry pitches combined on a two-hitter, walking three and striking out six.

Rockland Café 1, Damariscotta 0 (10 inns.)

At Rockland June 23, the hosts earned a thrilling walk-off win over Damariscotta by stringing together an array of hits in the final frame.

Zach Gledhill led the bottom of the 10th inning with a walk, followed by singles by Ryan Allender, Zac Roman and Nick Mazurek, with Mazurek's hit plating Gledhill with the game-winning run. Allender had three hits, while Roman added two in the win.

Allender pitched four innings for Rockland Café, allowing one hit, while striking out four batters. Mazurek went the final six innings on the hill for Rockland Café, allowing three hits, while striking out 13 batters.

Georges Valley 11, Bristol 1 (6 inns.)

At Thomaston June 21, the hosts scored at least one run in each of the final five innings of the game against Bristol en route to a mercy rule-shortened victory.

Rico Baudanza went the distance on the hill for Georges Valley, allowing four hits and one walk, with four strikeouts. Tyler Stevens pitched for Bristol, scattering 13 hits and six walks, with four strikeouts.

Leading Georges Valley at the plate were Travis Frye (single, double, 2 runs, 3 stolen bases), Dallas Ball (run, RBI), Shane Winchenbach (single, run, RBI), Titus Kaewthong (single, run), Andrew King (4 singles, 2 runs, 2 RBIs, 4 stolen bases), Thomas Curtis (2 singles, 2 runs, RBI), Caleb Jacob (run, RBI, 2 stolen bases), Jimmy Strong (RBI), Scott Strong (double, run, 2 RBIs), Nick Davis (single), Walker Ranney (RBI) and Zack Robinson (single).

For Bristol, Brett Cowen (double, 2 stolen bases), Tyler Cheney (double) and Cole Leeman (single, run, stolen base) paced the offense.

Georges Valley 8, Wiscasset 7

At Thomaston June 19, trailing by one run heading into the bottom of the seventh inning, the hosts plated the tying and winning runs to pick up their third win of the year.

Leading Georges Valley at the plate were Thomas Curtis (double, 2 singles), Travis Frye (single, 2 Runs), Nick Davis (single), Walker Ranney (single, run), Titus Kaewthong (single, run, RBI), Scott Strong (single, run, 2 RBIs), Jimmy Strong (RBI), Caleb Jacob (single, run) and Andrew King (single, run, 2 RBIs).

For Wiscasset, Dillon McMahon (3 singles, 2 runs, RBI), Mike Stewart (2 singles, RBI), Travis Padilla (single, run), Daren Wood (single, run, RBI), Nate Mills (RBI), Grant Hafler (single, RBI), Andy Hutchins (run) and Josh Cowing (run) paced the offense.

Kaewthong, Dallas Ball and Jimmy Strong all pitched for Georges Valley, allowing eight hits and nine walks, with three strikeouts. Tyler Bailey and Mike Stewart both pitched for Wiscasset, allowing nine hits and four walks, with seven strikeouts.

Frye walked and stole second before coming around on an RBI-single by Kaewthong to tie the game. Kaewthong later scored the winning run on a fielder's choice.

Rockport Automotive 5, Penobscot Bay Dentistry 4 (9 inns.)

At Belfast June 19, the visitors plated what proved to be the game-winner with a one-run win over the hosts.

Penobscot Bay Dentistry jumped to a 3-0 lead with two runs in the first inning and another in the third, while Rockport Auto took a 4-3 lead with a four-run fifth inning. Penobscot Bay Dentistry tied the game in the sixth inning before the visitors eventually plated the game-winning run in the top of the ninth inning.
