Belfast — A Dodge minivan caused about $1,500 worth of damage after striking the Rent-A-Center building at noon Thursday, Aug. 2.

Patrolman Eric Kelley said the driver’s foot slipped off the brake and hit the gas, which caused the vehicle to strike the building. There were five people in the vehicle, but no one was injured, Kelley said.

Kelley said the vehicle didn’t suffer any significant damage as a result of the accident.

Rent-A-Center Assistant Manager Aaron Cunningham noted that the incident was not the first of its kind.

“About four years ago we had a car drive through the storefront,” Cunningham said.

Josh Sykes, a customer service representative with RAC, said he didn’t see the accident, but heard the vehicle strike the building. He said the store would remain open for its regular business hours.

Sykes said employees were contacting the property manager for the building to get the damage repaired.

Rent-A-Center is located at 15 Starrett Dr. in Belfast.
