‘Miracle Worker’ auditions set

May 11, 2017

Belfast — Cold Comfort Theatre will hold supplemental auditions for “The Miracle Worker” Sunday, May 21, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. sharp at First Baptist Church, 95 High St. The session will be held downstairs in the vestry; enter through the front door.

No preparation is needed, as auditions will comprise cold reading from the script and should not last more than an hour. There are roles for both males and females. Men between age 40 and 60 are needed for both large and small roles; a Southern accent will be required.

Principal roles to be cast are: Annie, a lead, a woman in her 20s, very physical with a Boston Irish accent; Helen, a lead, age 8 to 11, has no lines but a lot of stage time and very physical; a small role of Viney, a servant; Mother, a lead, age 20s to early 30s, a large, time-consuming role; a little boy age 7 to 8, a few lines; and one “good ole’ dawg.”

The show could also use some back-up backstage folks, who are encouraged to come at the same time. Aynne Ames directs.

“The Miracle Worker” will be performed in August, Thursdays through Saturdays with a Sunday rain date. Performance dates are Aug. 3 through 5 (6 rain date) and Aug. 10 through 12 (13 rain date). The show will be mounted in Wales Park at the top of Main Street.
